“Sewn Collage 855” by Al Souza

Maybe you’re on the lam due to the fistfight you had over that parking space at Snider Plaza. Perhaps you’re nursing wounds incurred at Neiman’s. Whatever, you need a break from the holiday madness. Head directly for our local galleries. Maybe you’ll even find the perfect gift for your special someone. At Light & Sie (129 Leslie St. 214-745-2255. www.lightandsie.com), check out Adi Nes’ exhibit, “Biblical Stories.” The photographer is known for “addressing issues of identity—specifically masculinity and Israeliness.” His collection, which marries the horror of homeless people with biblical imagery, ends December 20.

“Twist” by David Leonard

Into something a little lighter? “Streetlevel,” paintings by Austin-based artist David Leonard, can be viewed at Norwood Flynn Gallery (Nov 22–Jan 25. 3318 Shorecrest Dr. 214-351-3318. www.norwoodflynngallery.com). Leonard creates precise paintings of buildings in Austin as well as in other cities he’s visited. Maybe you’re more into Broadway than architecture.

Check Holly Johnson for “David Aylsworth: Is that the real turtle soup?”  (Nov 22–Dec 27. 1411 Dragon St. 214-369-0169), for  a show full of paintings inspired by musical theater. Lots of things are happening at Conduit Gallery (1626C Hi Line Dr. 214-939-0064. www.conduitgallery.com).

“See the Sail as it Swiftly Swells” by David Aylsworth

See works by a number of artists, including Kenneth Holder, Al Souza, Mary Emma Hawthorne, and more. If you’ve never been to the Latino Cultural Center (2600 Live Oak St. 214-670-3320. www.dallasculture.org), why not make a day of it? “Campo Unificado: La Frontera Unified Field: the Border” by Beatriz Ezban is on exhibit until November 29. The Mexican painter “combines abstract and figurative imagery to represent and confront the physical reality of those who look to cross over and confront the boundaries that separate the nations.”
