Vintage watches. I wear an Omega GMT Master circa 1962 for everyday. I also have 1950s- and 1960s-era Omega Constellation watches—all stainless with leather bands. My favorite is a 1960s Rolex Air King that I found in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, several years ago.
Vintage motorcycles. I bought my first antique motorcycle by accident in high school—I found an old Ducati at a neighborhood garage sale. By now, I’ve probably owned more than 100, and usually 20 at any one time. My favorites are vintage BMW cafe racers from the 1960s and 1970s, which I rebuild with a little help from my friends.
Next hot trend. Industrial and Machine Age antiques.
Incense. I have this strange attraction to Nag Champa incense. It calms me down. Most scented candles are a little strong for my taste.
Austin. A near perfect weekend is a stay at the Hotel San José on South Congress Avenue. And don’t miss Uncommon Objects. What a great shop!
Books. I love hard-bound books—Southern Gothic novels to be precise. I have thousands, and they help define who I am. I just finished Smonk by Tom Franklin; he’s a Southern writer with an incredible ability to set a tone.
Sketches. I gravitate toward charcoal sketches, pencil sketches, and watercolors. They’re so
honest. I liken their creation to walking a tightrope without the safety net—there are no do-overs.
Grange Hall. I think those guys have a wonderful shop and interesting ideas. Being there is like walking into a Victorian naturalist’s library. I love the skull stationery they carry.
