Leave it to Michelle Nussbaumer at CEYLON ET CIE to seize the newest trends and make them her own. “Indochine Lacquer Works,” a new collection of 14 drop-dead looks designed by Nussbaumer and hand-finished with 17 layers of real lacquer in the ancient French method, is influenced by both Chinese Chippendale and Hollywood Regency styles. “It’s my new twist on tradition,” Nussbaumer says. “A lot of contemporary furniture can be cold, but these are inspired by great French 1940s designers such as Andre Arbus. A 17th century Chippendale chair becomes a whole new animal lacquered in lavender.” Pieces in the collection include a headboard, chairs, side tables, a buffet, and a dining table. Wild color options include powder puff pink, lavender, cobalt, apple green, and lemon yellow, among many others, including white, black, and custom colors. $575-$7,200.
