“Knox-Henderson” is often expressed as one word, but the two streets couldn’t be more different. Knox boasts home decor chains and chic crowds, while Henderson is laid back and diverse, with charming antiques stores bordering neighborhood bars.

The Whimsey Shoppe: More than 11,000 square feet of space are filled with a large collection of country French furniture, grandfather clocks, and accessories. 2923 N. Henderson Ave. 214-824-6300. www.thewhimseyshoppe.com.

Nick Brock Antiques: Shop for traditional antique finds—chandeliers, tapestries, silver, and majolica—among the more modern Murano lamps from the ’50s and wrought-iron torchiers. 2909 N. Henderson Ave. 214-828-0624.

Canterbury Antiques: Find English ironstone dishes, china, majolica, Staffordshire figures,
and blue and white chinoiserie. 2923-A N. Henderson Ave. 214-821-5265.

Milton Kent Antiques: Stop in for an eclectic mix of late 18th and early 19th century furniture, china, rugs, and artwork. 2819 N. Henderson Ave. 214-826-7553.

Alamo Glass & Mirror Co.: You can buy mirrors off the wall here, but 63-year-old Alamo is better known for its custom work including mirrors, shower doors, and glass furniture tops. 2823 N. Henderson Ave. 214-821-2886. www.alamoglassco.com.

Needless Necessities: Owners Don Hatfield and Sam Stidham relocated this small but jam-packed gift shop from New York in 2004. Choose from French milled soaps, rustic Italian wooden frames, the high-fired Portuguese porcelain Casafina, Archipelago soy candles, and the largest collection of Vera Bradley bags in town. Furniture can be customized with one of their 1,200 fabrics and 77 leathers. 2926 N. Henderson Ave. 214-824-0700. www.needlessnecessities.com.

Cierra Furniture: They import from Mexico, India, Morocco, and Peru; and their new and old furniture (look for treated copper tables) can be bought off the floor or customized—they have leather and upholstery samples in the store. 2920 N. Henderson Ave. 214-887-8772. www.cierrainteriors.com.

La Mariposa Imports: This Mexican variety store carries hand-blown margarita pitchers and glasses, talavera pottery, embroidered pillows, and mirrors and crosses in pewter, wood, ceramic, and tin. Martha Stewart ordered crepe paper flowers from the store for a fiesta party. 2813 N. Henderson Ave. 214-826-0069. www.lamariposaimports.com.
