Downtown Grapevine

Originating in 1844, Grapevine is one of Texas’ oldest settlements. Today, its restored Historic District boasts more than 75 shops and restaurants on Main Street and in the charming Bungalow Shops nearby.

Adorn by Amanda: Owner Amanda Diehl has a keen eye for selecting shabby chic frames, candles, and pillows for her small and inviting bungalow. Also find an eclectic collection of bohemian chic dresses and vintage jewelry. 202 W. Wall St. 817-251-8711.

Holy Grounds: Find more than 100 different varieties of coffee beans here, including amaretto, cinnamon toddy, cherries jubilee, and Cupid’s kiss—perfect for a loved one on Valentine’s Day. Stop in for the day’s free sample and some of the best aromas in town. 336 S. Main St. 817-329-0298. www.holygroundsshop.com

Design & Grace: Owner Tony Boulton married a Texan six years ago and made his way to the States permanently three and a half years ago. A distributor for kitchen and dining ware back home in England, Boulton brought his favorites to Grapevine, including an extensive collection of superb kitchen gadgets from Chef’s Planet and Progressive. Boulton is one of the few in the Dallas area who carries Schott Zwiesel’s unbreakable Tritan crystal glassware. When he slammed a fragile-looking champagne flute into the bookcase, we cringed. When it came away unharmed, we were impressed. When he told us it was dishwasher safe, we were sold. 419-B S. Main St. 817-421-9518. www.designandgrace.com.

Main Street Bread Baking Company: Bread and pastries are baked daily on the premises, which means the sandwiches are as fresh as possible. You’ll also find beautiful fruit tarts and French pastries, including a flaky Napoleon and a chocolaty Trianon. This is the place to give your feet, and credit card, a well-deserved break. 316 S. Main St. 817-424-4333. www.themainbakery.com.

Off the Vine: A perfect wine shop for the oenophile in your life who’s tried it all. It specializes in small case production wines including Blacksmith Cellars Alexander Valley cabernet ($38, only 220 cases produced) and Rocca Family Vineyards merlot, 2002 ($43). Owner Becky Anderson’s restaurant next door, Into the Glass, offers monthly tastings (January through October) with the chef’s custom pairings. 324 S. Main St. 817-421-1091. www.offthevinetexas.com.
