Shelter Me

Attention, overwhelmed shoppers. You’ll find shelter at Haven, a departure from local home stores piled high with too much stuff. The new Victory Park store is the brainchild of Jon Tutolo and John Bassignani, who have created a carefully tailored selection of stand-out pieces, such as Assouline’s leather, wood, and book scented candles; Nouvel Studio’s colorful glass dessert bowls and stackable tumblers; Rogan’s leather and steel chairs and ottomans; Klein Reid’s embroidered peacock pillows; and Oyuna’s thick cashmere throws. Haven. 2416 Victory Park Ln. 214-954-1515. www.haven-dallas.com.

Virtually Yours
You’ve spotted the perfect Florence Knoll-designed chair on the web, but don’t you wish you knew how it really looked before you clicked? Enter Dallas-based SputnikModern.com. Launched a year ago by mid-century modern dealer Chris Thurman, it’s been a closely held secret among local designers—until now. If you find something on his site, say a Cloud Sofa by Vladimir Kagan, you can see it in his warehouse near Market Hall. Send him your own fabric—he also does custom upholstery.

Money Saver
Current Energy carries a wide range of green home products, including longer lasting, energy efficient lighting such as the Merlin Desk Lamp by Adesso ($105), solar reflective paint, and slippers with built-in lights to guide you in the dark. Exclusive retail distribution deals with companies such as Lutron, who offers dimmer switches in 22 colors, and Honeywell, who provides the $99 install-it-yourself thermostat. If you don’t know where to begin, sign up for the Home Energy Audit ($750) to detail your home’s energy squandering flaws. Current Energy. 3103 Knox St. 469-533-7600. www.currentenergy.com.

THE SCOOP
Mother-and-son duo Jason and Terry Cohen have made buying vintage much more fun. Well-edited and well-organized, their new Lakewood store Curiosities is a collection of great finds from eight different vendors, without the usual antiques mall turnoff—junk. On a recent hunt, we found a child’s size, Art Deco vanity, an intricate wrought-iron candelabra, and sketches from a Neiman Marcus dress designer from the 1940s. Formerly to the trade only, Sabira Gallery has opened its doors to the public and is sharing a wealth of mohair and wool pillows, table runners, and boiled wool throws in exquisite paisleys, all made by hand from Pakistani and Indian artisans using centuries-old designs.
