At Last, IKEA
The Swedes are coming! The Swedes are coming! And it’s not a reunion tour of Abba. (Sigh.) No, it’s IKEA—famed purveyor of inexpensive yet chic home furnishings with a Scandinavian slant. The 310,000-square-foot behemoth of a store will be located in Frisco, at the corner of the Dallas North Tollway and Highway 121. The new store will feature 10,000 exclusive designs, 50 different room settings, five model homes, a children’s play area, and a 300-seat restaurant that serves Swedish specialties such as meatballs with lingonberries (because you know those Frisco families just love their lingonberries). Pending city approval, construction will begin in spring 2004 with an anticipated opening date of summer 2005. We can hardly wait.

If you’re still mourning the loss of Vertu—that Travis Walk haunt of hip home furnishings—dry your eyes and reapply your mascara. The new DL Lifestyle (4514 Travis St., Ste. 125. 214-522-3220) is more of the same with just a new name. Owner David Lee closed Vertu after his business partner headed for the West Coast. His new boutique carries the same cool and comfortable furniture, scent-a-licious candles, vibrant vases, and plenty of boffo bric-a-brac for su casa. Drop by and say, “Welcome back!”

Wrap yourself up in the cozy comfort and amazing craftsmanship of Through the Needle’s Eye: American Quilts From the Permanent Collection at the Dallas Museum of Art. Part of the citywide Quilt Mania collaboration among 11 Dallas-area cultural institutions, the DMA exhibit features a variety of quilts created between 1840 and 1945. Included are a barn raising design, a variation on the log cabin quilt, and a variety of patriotic quilts. On view in the Textile Gallery through June 27 at the Dallas Museum of Art, 1717 N.
