How Children Study

By D Magazine |

Some children are more productive doing their homework in an overstuffed chair—or even on the floor. Donna Collins, a Dallas-based Feng Shui master who consults for homes and businesses locally and nationally, says parents should observe their children when they’re young and create a space that honors the child’s natural posture. She also counsels parents to provide children with sensory input while they study. “Play some Mozart softly in the background, provide a simple snack, and place a lightly scented flower in a vase nearby,” she says. “Put your child’s body in contact with a pleasant texture to gently arouse the sense of touch.” Donna, who is writing a book on Feng Shui for children, says typical learners will process data and absorb facts more readily when they are comfortable and mildly stimulated.
