Figured It Out: Williams says big belts “remind the world that plus-size girls have figures, too.”

Kimberly Williams is the CEO of Interfaith Family Services, a nonprofit that empowers families facing homelessness to break the cycle of poverty. She’s also the principal of Kim Williams Consulting, a change-management firm for nonprofits.

Here, she shares what inspires her personal style, her go-to accessories, and more:

Style Icon

“The character Jessica from the television show Suits. She oozes class, style, and confidence—no matter what she faces. I love the simplicity and power of her style.”

On The Job

“I’m an introvert by nature, but when you see me in action, you’d never know it. When I pray, prepare, and look my best, I feel unbeatable.”

Fashion Inspiration

“Although I occasionally wear patterns and pants, I prefer solid color dresses that compliment my figure and that make a statement. They are simple enough not to distract from my message but bold enough to ensure that I am not ignored.”

Style Defined

“Classic confidence. I prefer classic, well-fitting dresses that embody femininity and confidence. Sheath dresses feel powerful. A-line dresses are flowing and social. Shirt dresses are comfy and business casual.”

Fashion Essentials

“A designer handbag. I purchased my first one at 33, and I’ve been buying them once a year as a gift to myself and a reminder of how hard I work. My favorite is Louis Vuitton. I love their handbags, and I’m obsessed with their accessories.”

How I Accessorize

“I often wear a big belt to accentuate my waist and to remind the world that plus-size girls have figures, too. I also like large earrings that go well with my short hair.”

Go-To Look

“A solid-colored, A-line belted dress is my go-to. I am often uncertain about patterns clashing with other people’s clothing, and sheath dresses require the right support. But, a solid A-line dress is classic and comfortable, and colorful shoes can still add a touch of whimsy and fun.”

Weekend Look

“I love denim in all forms—jeans, dresses, jackets. I typically wear some form of denim and dress it up.”

Favorite Store

“I shop at a variety of Black-owned boutiques-— D’Iyanu, ShopJBolin, and Bossy Glamworks—with Ralph Lauren and Good American sprinkled in from time to time. I also have a go-to tailor who makes sure that my clothes fit well.”
