Dallas native Alan Walne is the chairman of Dallas-based Herb’s Paint & Body, a chain of eight full-service auto repair shops in North Texas. The company was founded in 1956 by Walne’s father, Herb Walne, who died in 1986. The elder Walne’s first repair shop was a Humble Oil (later Exxon) service station in northeast Dallas. Alan Walne grew up in Dallas’ Lake Highlands area, where he still lives with his wife of 41 years, Joan. A graduate of Texas Tech with a BBA degree in finance, he first went to work for his father in 1975, when Herb’s had just three shops. Over the years Walne has been very active in civic organizations, having served for seven years on the Dallas City Council representing District 10. He currently serves on the boards of the State Fair of Texas and the Salesmanship Club of Dallas, among others. He’s also served on the Parkland Hospital Board of Managers.
