Dallas-based Clampitt Paper, founded in 1941 by Don Clampitt’s father, Max, is celebrating its 75th anniversary as a paper merchant selling to printers, designers, and artists. The younger Clampitt began working for the company while attending Highland Park High School and joined it full time in 1979, after graduating from the University of New Mexico. The chairman and CEO since 2001, Clampitt now oversees more than 250 employees and locations in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Missouri. “I make 50 percent of my decisions here,” Clampitt says of his office on Ambassador Row, “and 50 percent in our boardroom. I don’t escape here because I never shut the door.” He says he sees increased demand for paper in the future, despite the internet: “Not demand in volume, but demand in having something that is unique and innovative and quality.”
