Title: Partner
Company: Braumiller Schulz LLP
Details: Nine-lawyer customs and international-trade law firm; offices in Dallas, Houston, Chicago, and San Luis Potosi, Mexico.
Why you need to know her:
Because Adrienne Braumiller, a leading expert on import/export law, is the only attorney in private practice on the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency’s 20-member Departmental Advisory Committee on Commercial Operations. Appointed to the federal panel by the secretaries of the treasury and homeland security last year, Braumiller represents the interests of importers on the committee on key trade topics including regulation, fees, and security.

Schooled in Texas, California, England, and Austria, the Oklahoma native founded Braumiller Schulz with Michelle Schulz in 2003. Today their Dallas-based firm boasts hundreds of clients, from mom and pop outfits with five employees to giant companies like Fossil Partners LP, NEC Corp. of America, and Total Petrochemicals USA Inc.

With dozens of federal agencies involved in regulating import and export activity, Braumiller’s clients need plenty of help. The firm assists with everything from maquiladora programs and Free Trade Zone applications to export-management systems and Customs Broker training. “The main thing is complying with all the regulations,” Braumiller says. “Then we see what opportunities exist for saving our clients money.”
