SubscribeNiger Trigger
Price: $35 and up
Ranging in shades of blue, Niger Triggers can vary in length from 10 inches up to two feet. Though Niger Triggers are the least aggressive of all Triggers, they are still considered a predatory breed and should not be mixed with gentler saltwater fish. Yellow Tang
Price: $19 and up
Tangs are schooling fish and are usually seen in numbers. Yellow Tangs’ vivid color is unique and makes them a beautiful addition to any
saltwater aquarium. Because of their motherly nature, they are good community fish, often protecting other fish from more predatory species.
African Cichlids
Price: $8.99-$150
Unlike the others pictured on this page, these colorful Cichlids can survive in freshwater tanks. They come in a wide range of hues and types. These vibrant freshwater fish come from three main lakes in Africa and will breed in your aquarium. Ask an expert before mixing Cichlids with other fish, as Cichlids are more aggressive than your average guppy.
Lion Fish
Price: $50 and up
Don’t let the majesty of their flowing tentacles or their laid-back, shy disposition fool you: Lion Fish can be harmful and even deadly for anyone who handles them. Besides bacteria on the body that fights the human immune system, these saltwater beauties’ dorsal fins contain a poison that can be fatal if not treated in time. With proper care, however, no fish looks more striking or adds more drama to a tank.
Percula Clown
Price: $25 and up
These saltwater fish are shy in nature and live in one small area their entire lives. They prefer the shelter and protection offered by sea anemones to open water. Though a solitary bunch, Percula Clowns are playful at heart. These “reef safe” fish—made especially popular by Finding Nemo—take only one mate at a time.
