A relaxing getaway that you can spend more time relaxing in and less time getting away to—that was the idea behind The Ranch on Possum Kingdom, a sprawling, 1,400-acre development built less than a decade ago and nestled on the southeast corner of pristine Possum Kingdom Lake. “It’s that Hill Country feeling two hours from Dallas,” says Craig Walker, president of Clearview Partners, the developer of The Ranch. The luxurious, second-home community has lured local CEOs such as Joe Haggar III, Evan Wyly, and former Dr. Pepper CEO Jim Turner, who have all purchased land or built homes there. And Walker’s not done yet. Clearview recently unveiled plans for a second private, lakeside development right next-door to the Ranch. Hill Country Harbor, a master-planned, family-oriented community, will spread across 275 acres of rolling, wooded topography and will feature an equestrian center, spa, lazy river park, grotto pool, and the finest 400-slip marina on the lake. A restaurant and 18-room lodge are already open for guests, and lot reservations are being taken. Walker expects to break ground on the residences—which range from two-story cottages and three-story lodges to rustic log cabins—by year’s end and complete them by next year. With interest from Just Brakes CEO Bennett Cloud and Jay Allison of Comstock Resources, who already has a home at The Ranch, Hill Country residents will surely be in good company.
