In the May issue of D Magazine, Eric Celeste wrote his column about Ed Meier. The print headline: “District 32’s Don Quixote.” When Eric was writing the piece, in early April, he of course was not guessing that Meier would announce his candidacy, but that formal announcement didn’t come till this morning. Here’s Gromer Jeffers story about the announcement in the DMN. And here’s what Meier had to say in a press release:

Hi there –

I’m proud to tell you that I’m running for Congress in Texas’ 32nd Congressional District — because folks in Dallas deserve a representative who looks out for their needs, not a rubber stamp for Donald Trump.

I hope you’ll take a minute to watch our first video, and then share it with your friends and neighbors who should be on this team, too.

My parents were medical missionaries in Nigeria, and I was raised to understand that public service is a value – it means dedicating yourself to the service of others. After serving in the Obama Administration as a State Department official focused on making sure our diplomats, aid workers, and soldiers in Iraq were properly cared for; leading a non-profit organization that works to close the educational opportunity gap across Dallas; and working to elect Hillary Clinton, I believe this race is the next step in truly dedicating myself to service.

I was only able to make this decision with the love and support of my family and friends like you, and I’m so glad to have such an incredible team behind me. If you’re ready to put service first, please make a contribution right now — any amount will help to get this campaign off the ground.

I believe that real service means doing what’s right for the people you serve, not what’s right for yourself or your political party. Our Congressman, Pete Sessions, lost track of that a long time ago. Instead of looking out for folks in our community, he is looking out for Trump – supporting his agenda 100% of the time.

I’m running to put Dallas families first – by supporting policies that create better-paying jobs where people are treated with dignity, more affordable health care that people can count on, and making sure all our kids are ready to compete in a rapidly changing economy. You’ll hear more about my ideas in the coming days – but for now it’s important to me that you know why I’m running, what I believe, and how I plan to help the people in the Dallas area.

Thank you,

Ed
