If you are a wine lover living in Dallas there are always great opportunities to enjoy a glass, sometimes for important causes, always for the simple pleasure of toasting, often over tasty bites prepared by favorite chefs throughout the city. Here are a few not to miss opportunities to put on your wine and dine calendar.
Savor Dallas celebrates their annual event next week. Starting March 18th with a series of dinners throughout town, then full festivities start the 19th with a stroll through the Arts District toasting and tasting at the Crow Collection of Asian Art, Meyerson Symphony Center, and Nasher Sculpture Center, followed by a garden party at the Dallas Arboretum on Friday, Reserve and International Grand tastings on the 21st and an afternoon brunch on the 22nd the weekend will make a wine lover out of any novice. Just a few tickets are still available for Sigel’s Benchmark Pinot Noir tasting on Monday, March 16 featuring 50 of the finest Pinot Noir wines in the world, including both the Gary’s and Rosella’s Vineyard Pinot Noir from Miner Family Wines, Penner Ash Shea Vineyard, La Follette Van Der Camp Vineyard, August Briggs Russian River, and multiple selections from Patz & Hall, Loring, Stelle and more with a handful of guest winemakers in attendance including Brian Loring of Loring Wines, John Vidal of Margerum, Beth Adams with August Briggs and Bill Bishop with Steele. The American Heart Association’s (AHA) largest fundraising event of the year just happens to be in Dallas, with the Dallas Division of AHA annual Cotes du Coeur event, April 25th at the Hilton Anatole featuring some of Dallas’ favorite chefs, led as always by Chef Richard Chamberlain, preparing bites to pair with the two dozen wineries featured this year, including favorites like Cliff Lede, Hanzel, Hall, Siduri, Sequoia Grove and this year’s Tête du Cuvée Honoree, Martinelli Winery and Vineyards. Each year in the heart of Bordeaux, Chateaus throughout the region come together for their “En Primeur” event showcasing the latest vintage by sampling wine in its youth, while it is still aging in the barrel. This year, just a week after the grand event in France, Bordeaux winemakers will showcase “En Primeur” 2014 Vintage, alongside 2011 and 2012 vintages with the Le Grand Cercle des Vins de Bordeaux coming to Dallas on April 22 on the 42nd floor of Cityplace. The evening event will give guests the chance to taste the latest vintages while visiting with winemakers from the region. Wine Spectator’s Grand Tour will make a stop in Dallas on May 8th at the Hyatt Recency where over 200 wines from around the world, many from last year’s top 100 list, will be poured from 7pm-10pm. Tickets are $225 each and available here.
If you can make it down to Houston on March 30 check out the In Pursuit of Balance (IPOB) event at The Parador. IPOB is a non-profit organization seeking to promote dialogue around the meaning and relevance of balance in California Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The day long event will include two sessions diving into the state of the two varieties in California now, and where they will go next. The day will end with a consumer tasting of over 30 Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines from throughout the state, partnering with some of Houston’s best restaurants, including Mark’s, Backstreet Cafe and Sonoma Wine Bar.
