Last night Best Buddies Dallas celebrated their “Life is Sweet” event with sweet treats prepared by some of our favorite chefs in the city and their buddy chef helpers.
The first of these “Life is Sweet” events occured just last fall on a chilly night in November, and with the great success of that evening for Best Buddies, and the beauty of spring in the air, they moved the 2011 event up a few months and held it last night at Victoria Hall inside Andrew Ormsby Catering.
And some of the same faces were there as well – Chef Andrew Ormsby making Kahlua Bavarois with Chocolate Cream and Raspberries with his buddy Abby; Chef Janice Provost of Parigi making her Chocolate Glob (voted the guest favorite of the night) with her buddy Lisa; Chef Jeffrey Hobbs of Suze putting a spin on Strawberry Shortcake with Chocolate Chip Biscuits with his very helpful buddy Tyler; Chef Randall Copeland of Restaurant Ava and his decadent Butterscotch Bread Pudding with his buddies Christi and Austin; the always popular Chocolate Sushi from Chef Andrew Wilt of Steel with his buddy Sabrina; and some new faces this time with Chef Steven Smith from Nib Chocolate creating sweet little bites of Rosemary Caramel Chocolate with his buddy Jeremy; and Chef Graham Dodds of Bolsa and his buddy Mollie creating yummy White Chocolate Rum Tiles with Brulleed Nanners.
The goal of Best Buddies is to establish a volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. 18,000 people were impacted and enriched through Best Buddies in the 2010-2011 academic year through their work of matching high school and college students with other students or adults in the community with disabilities. They promote social inclusion and help establish and maintain meaningful and lasting friendships.
