We all would love to live on a ranch, with wide open spaces to roam and a cozy home to hide away from the hustle and bustle. But while not all of us can get out the city that easily, this updated ranch on Royal Lane might just be the perfect compromise.

Built in 1952, the 2,371-square-foot home was renovated last year. The main living areas were originally one big space, but, as listing agent Loren* Hall asks, “what are you supposed to do with it?”

Hall says the current owners completely redid the floor plan. The laundry room became a third full bath, they expanded the pantry, and they threw up a few walls to add a fourth bedroom that could easily become a nursery or office space. They completed the renovation with a second dining area.

“So it was just little things they did throughout the home that made it more functional,” she says.

White oak hardwood floors and modern light fixtures are featured throughout the home, and the airy living room has floating shelf built-ins and a sleekly redone black-porcelain fireplace.

“Too many cooks in the kitchen” is hardly a thing here—the roomy kitchen has quartz counters, a convenient pot filler, a double oven, and a six-burner Viking range. “This one truly is a chef’s kitchen,” Hall says.

Just beyond the kitchen is the dining room, a new breakfast nook, and a large wet bar. “You can grab a drink from the wine fridge,” Hall says, “pour a glass—whatever you need—but you’re always facing your guests in the living and dining area.”

The secondary bedrooms have walk-in closets, plus “big windows and silence,” Hall says, despite the home’s Royal Lane address. And while the primary bedroom is just your basic master, it has lots of windows and a private opening to the backyard space.

Sitting on a little over a quarter acre, this property’s backyard space is huge and has enough room to add a pool and still have lots of grass for kids to run around. There’s a massive side yard to enjoy, too. “Every time people go outside,” Hall says, “I’m like, ‘go around the corner!’”

If you prefer lounging to kicking around a ball in the grass, the backyard also has a covered patio, ideal for rainy days or escaping the summer sun.

And while this property is turn-key, there’s still plenty of opportunity for its new owners to add personal touches and character to the home.

Scroll through the gallery to learn more about the home, and if you’re interested, stop by its open house from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 16.
