Nestled among other small family homes in Kessler Park, 1046 North Clinton Avenue blends right in–and that’s where its beauty lies. The bungalow is chic and contemporary without feeling out of place or flashy – it’s content to be a little slice of history standing resolute through the decades.
The exterior is simple and classic: white brick, a black roof, and clean-cut landscaping. A closer look reveals a front patio adorned with eye-catching details like geometric gray-and-white tiling, a porch swing, an outdoor chandelier, and a contrasting black ceiling.
Though the home was recently taken down to the studs in 2018, its interior encompasses several original features (the wood flooring, for example, or the glass doorknobs on interior doors). Compass agent Amy Messer, who owns the home and spearheaded its remodel last year, intended to make it new without feeling out of place, maybe how the same house would be built today.
Through the carved front door, an inviting living room awaits, complete with a cozy white brick fireplace. A rounded cased opening showcases a peek of the open-concept dining room, where wood ceiling beams lead the eye towards the far edge of the space. There, a kitchen boasts contemporary touches like white subway tile, floating wood shelves, gold drawer pulls, and pendant lights. The true showstopper (and perhaps our favorite detail in the home): kitchen cabinetry painted a deep, striking evergreen.

Other rooms are equally refined. A petite home office, for example, is swathed in matte black and white and illuminated by a gold mobile chandelier. Soft outside light pours in the bedrooms’ huge windows, creating an airy, bohemian feel.
A small backyard feels tucked away thanks to the tall fencing and an abundance of greenery. The sparkling saltwater pool is an oasis, surrounded by Southwestern-inspired cacti and aloe plants.
