Hot Property: A Jewel Box Home in University Park

There are plenty of grand homes in University Park, particularly when someone eyes an older residence for an update. Walking tours of sprawling, Volk Estates properties could go on for hours. But every now and then, you’ll spy an updated home that seems to revel in its smallness. Every inch is thoughtfully updated and worthy of a second glance.

2700 Purdue Avenue is one such house. The 2,775-square-foot, 1940s home has been completely redone with gorgeous finishes that reflect the soothing gray-and-cream color scheme of its charming exterior. Walls are lined with designer wallpaper and vein-cut Carrara marble. Open shelves and modern light fixtures help make the otherwise traditional home feel current.

At times, the cottage-like home feels quaint. The cozy little breakfast nook gives off an almost shabby chic vibe. But those points are counterbalanced but other elements, including a beamed cathedral ceiling in the living room or the brand-new marble mantle shielded by what is surely one of Claire Crowe’s stunning butterfly fire screens.

But we’d be remiss if we went this whole post without mentioning another important update: a fully redone laundry room. Do not sleep on the potential of a fully redone laundry room. Especially this one. It has storage galore and a sink! It can double as a mudroom. There’s a photograph of horses which is probably not included in the purchase but it does work here. My mom would love every inch of this, and I wish I could buy this house just so she could have this laundry room. If you have upwards of $1 million at your disposal (alas, I do not), maybe you can buy the home for your mom. Mother’s Day is coming up!
