Are you a fan of birthdays? We at D Magazine certainly are. From donuts to decorations, no one’s big day goes unnoticed here. In fact, there’s currently a balloon floating somewhere in our rafters.

That’s why we love The Birthday Party Project. Volunteers, aptly called ‘birthday enthusiasts,’ host monthly parties for kids in homeless and transitional living facilities, complete with cupcakes, games, face painting, and balloons. For some, it’s their first ever birthday celebration. After being serenaded with “Happy Birthday” and blowing out candles, each one leaves with an individual cake and a gift.

In honor of North Texas Giving Day last week, The Birthday Party Project launched their newest concept: Birthday in a Box. The confetti-covered keepsakes transport the fun of the monthly event to children unable to attend. Foster care communities and youth programs receive the boxes and use the enclosed party hats, crafts, and streamers to set the scene for a celebration.

You can donate a Birthday in a Box for $50 here. Ready to party? Become a birthday enthusiast here.
