If the dream (or at least the dream of many) is to own a home with charm and history that also boasts the latest, energy-efficient, and easily-marketable trends and features, 9947 Gooding Drive practically over delivers.

From the living room’s wall of custom built-ins to the energy efficient windows throughout, every inch of this ’50s-era ranch house has something of note. But the kitchen might really be the star of this meticulously remodeled show. The refrigerator and its French doors have been custom fitted to be perfectly flush against the wall. The dark wood open shelves beautifully match the gleaming hardwood floors. One side of the mostly white marble island has been painted a very chic shade of green. On a personal note, the white cabinets and their minimal modern pulls look eerily like the ones that took (what seemed like) an eternity to get installed in my parents’ own kitchen, and you just know those things are soft-close.

But the greatest representation of 9947 Gooding’s marrying of old and new is found in the backyard. In the middle of a perfectly manicured lawn, between a new, spacious deck and a freshly constructed privacy fence, a large, leafy tree stands tall in the same space its probably occupied for decades. Stand tall, tall tree. Stand tall.
