Here’s a feel good shopping opportunity to mark your calendar for. From March 19 – 22, one of D Magazine’s 100 Best Shops in Dallas from 2014, Fair & Square Imports, will be hosting a Fair Trade Oriental Rug Event that aims to change the way we buy and sell rugs.

Throughout the weekend, shoppers can choose from hundreds of hand-knotted Oriental rugs in various shapes, colors and designs. The difference: every rug purchase supports the education, adult literacy, housing and more for over 850 families in villages throughout Pakistan with the help of the artisan group “Bunyaad.”

Bunyaad’s rug program has resulted in the completion of several schools in remote areas of Pakiston and has given the students’ mothers and fathers an avenue for true social change within themselves, their families, and the entire community.

“Our artisans always know they have a job that pays them a living wage, a wage that allows them to send their kids to school, eat proper food and plan for the future,” said Yousaf Chaman, Bunyaad rug program director.

If you can’t make it to the McKinney storefront during the weekend, we’d highly suggest making the trip out to Fair & Square Imports on Thursday, March 19 where they’ll host a Chocolate & Wine Evening Rug Preview starting at 6pm. Guests can learn how Oriental rugs are made and how fair trade is making a difference both in rug quality and in the lives of artisans who make them.

The Fair Trade Oriental Rug Event will be held at Fair & Square Imports, located at 219 E. Louisiana St. in Downtown McKinney, March 19-22: Thursday 10–9, Friday 10–7, Saturday 10–7, and Sunday 10–6.
