Get the Vibe: Riffraff

For lovers of cowhide rugs, chevron, or a really great gallery wall, this is your store.

To know Riffraff is to love it. I can’t tell you how many friends I’ve driven out to the store in Plaza at Preston Center (only their second location in the U.S.) and told, “you’re going to be obsessed.” They always are. Sure, at 25-years-old, my friends and I probably fall directly into the Riffraff’s target demographic, but the shop is more addicting than simply appealing. Blame it on the Rifle Paper Company notepads or on the colorful array of Wildfox and Show Me Your Mumu (probably my favorite clothing brand name of all time), but really, I think it’s more than that. Riffraff has the whole package. From the easy-to-shop website and engaging social media presence right down to the dressing room that’s everything a home décor Pinterest project should be, everything about the shop works together and keeps us hooked.

So about that gallery wall… I fell so hard for the décor in the Dallas shop that I reached out to Amy Pizzey, manager of Riffraff Dallas, to find out more about the inspiration behind the design and how I could attempt to get the store’s vibe in my own home.

CC: How would you define the design style of Riffraff’s Dallas shop?

AP: I like to call our style of design Southern Glam! The industrial touches and brass fixtures keep the store modern while the white washed wood paneling and cowhide rug keep it true to our southern roots.

CC: How does the décor in Riffraff Dallas differ from the original store in Fayetteville, Arkansas?

AP: The Fayetteville storefront embodies the eclectic lifestyle of the community. We tried to keep some of the original store’s characteristics (like some of our rustic wood pieces) while incorporating the big city “Dallas vibe”. The black, white, and gold color scheme shows off the modern, upscale qualities of Dallas.

CC: You hired Benge General Contracting (who also worked on Drybar, CrushCraft, Kelly Mitchell Jewelry and more) to help with the construction of the Dallas store. How did they help you achieve the vision for Riffraff Dallas?

AP: With the help of our amazing interior designer, Katie Henry, (Katie Grace Designs) she connected us with Benge Contracting. There wasn’t a single idea or vision that we had that wasn’t attainable thanks to Jim and the Benge team. We had an extremely tight timeline that they kept into consideration without sacrificing any details of our design. Joe, from Steel Life Designs, created one-of-a-kind racks, tables, and helped with an intricate shoe wall display that really reflected our vision. Benge was able to connect us with people who shared the same inventiveness and efficiency as the Riffraff Dallas team, and we couldn’t be happier with our design team!

CC: It’s hard to pick a favorite thing about Riffraff’s design, but I think mine might be the big gold and white textured mural behind the register. Can you tell us more about it?

AP: Our extremely talented, and not to mention creative owner, Kirsten Blowers Stuckey, created the mural behind our register! With the vision in her head from day one, we took a trip to Hobby Lobby to get the plaster and a trip to Michael’s for the gold leaf paint, and viola! This little beauty came to life in just a few short hours! Fun fact: the letters featured on this wall are our signature letters that are also featured outside of the Fayetteville storefront.

CC: What design elements do you think fans of the shop should look for to get the vibe in their own homes?

AP: You can never go wrong with a great gallery wall! Our store features many walls filled with our favorite quotes, mirrors, accessories, and even a giant steer head! By picking out a few cute frames, a motivating quote or two, some neat little prints, you’ve got yourself a Pinterest worthy design.

CC: What are your favorite elements of Riffraff Dallas’ look?

AP: I can’t get enough of the pink velvet cushion in our dressing room! I’m a sucker for anything girly and glamorous, so the bench brings the perfect feminine touch to our southern storefront.

Carly (social media director): All the fun add-ins are my favorite elements of Riffraff Dallas! From the sassy quotes on the gallery wall to the spotted wallpaper in our dressing rooms, there’s always something new everyday that catches my eye!

Adrienne (stock room manager): I feel like the gold leaf mural behind the register sums up Riffraff Dallas completely! It is the perfect rustic-meets-glam feel!

Megan (PR director & Head Shop Girl): I love the industrial accents, like the brass light fixtures and gold table bases. It gives a fresh and inviting feel that makes any shopping experience even better!

Sarah Louise (customer service & inventory manager): All the western touches are my favorite elements of Riffraff Dallas’ look, maybe because it reminds me of home! The steer head incorporated into one of our gallery walls and the gold-speckled cowhide right when you walk in the door really shows off our southern style perfectly!
