I like this apartment. Then again, I am a little biased.

Groucho loves hanging out in my den!

For the first installment of our My Space series, I thought I’d give my own home a go. So here’s the story behind my space:

I live where all the hip young professionals in Dallas reside: Uptown. Okay, so maybe that description is a bit of an exaggeration, but I do live in walking distance from most of my friends and tons of restaurants, which is why Uptown is the ideal neighborhood for me. While I’d like to mention that my closet is my favorite part of my apartment, obviously that wouldn’t photograph very well. So instead, here’s my den.

A lot of my favorite pieces in the room were gifts or inherited from my family. The trio of paintings over the couch were created by my great-grandmother, Lovie Goss, who hailed from Farmerville, Louisiana. The cowhide rug, which adds some contrast to my fairly neutral furniture, was a gift from former employer and friend Janet Rice. The story behind my dress form, named Penelope, is one that I’ve shared on D Magazine blogs previously: Penelope belonged to my mother, Kim. She loved fashion, and would dress Penelope when she was trapped at home while undergoing treatment. While she usually serves as more of a coat rack, I made sure to dress her up while taking photos for D Home.

I love my den because it’s where my friends gather to watch Girls while eating cookie dough, play Clue, and where my awesome cat, Groucho, likes to hang out. The room is always filled with natural light, making the couch my favorite reading and writing nook.
