At Home with Tracy Martin Taylor: Layers, Layers, Layers

Tracy Martin Taylor, the decor maven behind Eleven 11 Design, wants to help you beautify your home in 2014. Once a month she’ll be stopping by the D Home world headquarters to share a little interior design insight with us. Today, let’s cozy up with her and talk about layers.

It’s winter, and a crazy one at that. We’ve learned all kinds of new vocabulary like “cobblestone ice” and “polar vortex”. I find it a good excuse to cozy up your place — with layers.

My favorite version of layers is in the world of rugs. Adding layers of color and texture to your living area creates a magnet for comfy-ness. I love the amazing creations at The Rug Company since they are handmade and gorgeous. Investing in an heirloom traditional style piece like the Ottoman Artichoke will raise the style bar. To change up the look, trying layering an interesting cow hide or two. Texas Leather Goods in Carrollton is a great resource for the good stuff.

For a more budget-friendly approach, start with a natural neutral rug and pile on a layer of mismatched dhurries. You will get a punch of color and texture without a huge investment.

I also go a little plush throw crazy this time of year. A faux fur here and there will take the ‘curl up and read a book’ factor of any room to a new level.

In 2014, challenge your fear of mixing things up. Choose pieces that draw your eye and if you love it, it will work!

Love your space,

TMT
