You’re halfway through the holiday season and all the shopping and parties are starting wear you (and your favorite pair of stilettos) down. Next up — you’re hosting the holiday celebration. That means friends and family at your house. . . what’s on the menu?

We’ve got a few ideas on how to get the party started with some fun drink concoctions. First up: the hot toddy. Why should this be your beverage of choice? Two reasons: it’s warm and it has alcohol in it. What more could you ask for? Bonus: hot toddies also rumored to be a cure for the common cold.

The recipe:

  • 1 1/4 oz of whiskey
  • 1 cup of boiling water
  • Honey
  • 3 lemon wedges
  • Whole cloves

Coat the bottom of your hot toddy glass with honey. Add the whiskey to the glass and squeeze the lemon wedges over it. Pour the boiling water into the glass, and stir. Press cloves into squeezed lemon wedges, and add to drink.

If you feel like spicing it up, try adding a tea bag, cinnamon stick, or switching out your lemon wedges for orange.
