The Big Read Dallas launches today. More than 21,000 copies of Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 were handed out to ninth- and tenth-grade Dallas ISD students with the hopes that the entire city will read and talk about the book during the month of April. Civic leadership training program D Academy, D Magazine Partners, and the Friends of the Public Library organized the event.

We’re all excited about it around here. Employees of the D Empire have worked hard to make this effort happen. D Magazine‘s Krista Nightengale and a crew of volunteers were up at 4:30 am this morning handing out books at DART stations. And they want to give you a book, too.

In the March/April issue of D Home, we asked our Best Designers to recommend their favorite design book. The must-haves are in the picture above. Tell us your favorite design book in the comments and you can win two special editions of Fahrenheit 451. The special edition includes a D logo and a note to readers on the first page.

The catch? You have to give one of the books away to someone you run into that day (not a relative or co-worker). We ask that you post a photo of you and your new friend (with the books) on Facebook or Instagram. It’s fun, right? I will choose 10 winners on Wednesday at noon. You can pick up your books at D Magazine‘s downtown office.
