On The House With Mark Molthan: Exposed Brick Brings the Outside In

When it comes to the materials you choose for the inside and outside of your home (including your garage!) think outside the box. Unique materials with eye-catching texture can turn an ordinary space into one of your favorite places—all because you decided to do something different.

“By adding brick to the interior of a home, whether in the garage or the kitchen, you can create the feel of generational building,” Mark says. “The look makes it appear as though you’ve knocked down a wall within an existing home and added on.”

“Exposed brick helps create an environment that’s warm and inviting, as well as offers an alternative—and often more interesting—texture throughout the home,” explains Mark. “Brick can also break up the look of sheetrock and add variety from room to room.”

The brick in Mark’s garage is antique and sourced from one of Mark’s local brick suppliers. “We collaborate with our homeowners to create different looks by using a variety of bricks—and even stones—on the walls of a home, depending on their preference and based upon the design criteria for their home,” says Mark.
