Friday Fun with ID Collection’s Jim Williamson

It’s Friday, and it’s a beautiful day! Go outside already. But before you go, read the musings from my boyfriend, ID Collection’s Jim Williamson. Sleep. Does anyone other than our pets and/or children get enough of it? I doubt it. And doesn’t it make you angry when you can’t sleep and everyone else is snoozing away? If I’m not going to get enough sleep, I would prefer it be because of a damn good party that I can effuse about the following day.
The main reason I need to get a good night’s sleep is so I don’t wake up looking like White Oprah after too much chardonnay at a charity event. Or Gary Busey pretty much any day of the week. But I will gladly sacrifice some sleep as long as the spouse and all the inhabitants of our house are happy, even if my pout might suggest otherwise. (Well, as happy as I can be what with me being the walking reality show, Taming of the Shrew. The Liz Taylor version, of course.)

I’m not sure why I still pout at my age. I think it is just ingrained. But every time I do, I think back to that Polaroid picture taken of me when I was very young, sitting in the middle of an enormous backyard with my arms around my knees, sporting the biggest pout ever. I would stay that way for what seemed like forever. But now that I think about it, it was a win-win situation for everyone. I eventually got my way (or so I thought at the time ) and my parents got some peace because my bratty ass was out of the house.

So what do you do when you can’t count sheep? You write a blog post or do laundry or count your blessings. But another thing you could do is count the threads in these wonderful fabrics that cover this bedroom. This room is the height of luxury but in the most understated way. Why? Because that is just how Bernie de Le Cuona likes it. Soft, supple, and super luxurious. She knows chic, and she knows how to make fabrics feel and looks like thousands of cherubs wove them just for you. (These are mythical beings. We do not support child labor.)  These textiles are part of her spring 2013 collection. And look at the fabric upholstered on the wall. It is called Leonardo, and it’s 100 percent linen and hand-painted. Per Bernie, who I just caught on her cell before her daily run, “The cloudy, subtle effect is the result of unique color absorption of the various weft yards used in the design. The finished product is a work of art as much as it is a versatile fabric.”

So next time you can’t sleep, take a look at your surroundings. Chances are you probably need a little Bernie to make bedtime all better. Or just blame everything on your spouse. Then he will feel guilty and take you out for a delicious meal at Boulevardier, where your troubles will surely melt away.

Happy Friday. And please, no pouting.
