We are continuing with the 12 Days of Gifting series on the D Home blog this week. We frequent Paper & Chocolate for the assortment of invitations, stationary, and unique chocolate treats. Owner Vicki Petersen also hand-selects a section of gifts that are perfect for placing under the tree. See her recommendation below.

Gift Recommendation: A set of Moscow Mule Mugs

Price: Set of two, $74

Why do you recommend this gift? I love gifts that people will use.  These mugs are fun, beautiful, and functional—and a little luxurious.

Who should I buy this for? I love this gift for the couple who has everything and the young couple just starting out. I include a recipe and some ginger beer so that my favorite couples can enjoy sitting together and sipping a delightful cold drink. Get the recipe after the jump.

Moscow Mule Recipe

1 ounce vodka

1 tsp sugar syrup*

Fresh lime juice

½ cup ginger beer

1 sprig fresh mint

1 slice of lime

In a copper mug, pour vodka over ice.  Add sugar syrup and lime juice.  Top with ginger beer and stir.  Garnish with mint sprig and lime slice

Bar Simple Syrup

Combine equal parts sugar and water in a bottle and shake it until the sugar is completely dissolved. The result is syrup that is thinner than simple syrup.

Simple Syrup

Bring one part water to a boil.

Dissolve equal part sugar into the boiling water, stirring constantly.  Once the sugar is dissolved completely, remove the pan from the heat. (Note: Do not allow the syrup to boil for too long or the syrup will be too thick.) Allow to cool completely and thicken, then bottle.
