Friday Fun with ID Collection’s Jim Williamson

It’s Friday. That means it’s time for some words from my hunky friend, ID Collection’s Jim Williamson. Hello, my Friday friends. It’s been ages since I’ve posted. Before more time lapses, I figure I need to start typing. I’m calling this post “Cartier, Cupcakes, and Conclusions.”

Let’s go back to last Thursday. I was on my way to NYC for some work, some play, and a special birthday party for an adorable friend who just turned 30. My companion had arrived the previous day, as he was working very hard on a project for a VIP in town. The flight was fine. (Nothing like the nine hours it took to get back on Wednesday. Thanks Mother Nature. You really know how to screw up people’s schedules. The lesson: Always pack some extra food. I know every mother knows this but men—not so much. We think we can survive  on a stick of gum and good deodorant.)

Anyway, I arrived at the hotel. As I entered the room, there was my sweet companion sporting the biggest smile ever. After freshening up, we took off. I asked where we were going, and he replied, “It’s a surprise.” I don’t like surprises because control freaks don’t like surprises.

We walked to Fifth Avenue and crossed the street, and suddenly we were in front of Cartier. “Surprise, honey!” he said, “Since it is almost impossible to select anything for you without your prior approval or without receiving that oh-so-special eye roll, I wanted you to pick out any ring you want so I can show you how committed I am to you and how much I love you.” I selected simple but beautiful gold bands, and right there, in the middle of Cartier on Fifth, we exchanged rings. Sweet, right?  So from now on when some special occasion calls for a gift and you ask me what I want, just take your butt to Cartier. Big or small,  I want it.

Now let’s talk cupcakes and conclusions. Who doesn’t like a good cupcake?  But I also use to call Michael Bradley “cupcake” and “poodle.” Michael recently lost his long battle with cancer, and he will be sorely missed. Michael loved him some sweets. In fact, he had the biggest sweet tooth of any person I have ever known. I wonder if all that sugar made him the sweet and giving person he was. He fought the most courageous fight—he was always smiling through the pain and never complained.

This brings us to conclusions. This Saturday will truly be another first for me.  We will start the day with a funeral and end it with a wedding. No, not my wedding. My gorgeous friend Sahar and her fiancé Josh are getting married. I wish them many years of complete and total happiness.

As is typical in our ever expanding and ever strange universe, as one life ends another one begins. We can be a little sad about our cupcake, but I think I can say with almost 100 percent accuracy that Michael wouldn’t want us to be sad. He would want us to celebrate life just as he did every moment. This weekend, whether you’re attending a funeral, a wedding, or re-grouting some tile, get out there and dance, sing, get up, and shake your thing. If it just so happens to include a large amount of sweets and a go go dancer or two, that’s all the better!
