Friday Fun with ID Collection’s Jim Williamson

It’s Friday. That means it’s time to hear from my boyfriend, ID Collection’s Jim Williamson. Thursday’s are typically my late night at work, which means that when I’m finally headed home, I can go one of either two ways. I either want to go out to dinner and have a lovely evening or I want to stay away from all people and watch Swampbillies while dining on the contents of the fridge (which is generally condiment based).

Last night, I chose to go out. First, I hadn’t seen my companion in what seemed like days due to scheduling and work conflicts. (By the way, “companion” is my new fave word.  I came across it while doing some “research, ” which led me to YouTube and a charming Frenchman describing his lovely flat in Paris that he shares with his companion of many years. Maybe it was the accent—I am a sucker for an accent—or maybe it’s because the word is genderless and can involve beings with two or four legs.) Second, Melanie was joining us. Melanie—aside from being super successful, smart, and funny—is also the dallaswinechick. We like people who like wine. I also like people who work by day and blog by night—or vice versa—whatever works for you. I’m not here to judge. I save that for when you leave the room. I was raised properly, you know.

Anyway, off we went to dinner. We arrived early at Campo because we were hungry, and we had just about polished off that box of cheese straws at home. We were seated and contemplated whether to order wine by the glass or bottle. Since our guest is a wine enthusiast, we didn’t want her to mock our selection. Of course, she would never do that (at the table).

The evening was a bit celebratory and chock-full of acronyms. Melanie recently started a new job as CMO – Chief Marketing Officer—and my companion recently started a new job as CCO—Chief Creative Officer. As they discussed chief-like things and tossed around acronyms like CTR (click-though rate) and CSS (cascading style sheets), my mind began to wander slightly. Now don’t get me wrong, I do find other fields and topics unrelated to design interesting. But should something shiny catch my eye, you’re dead to me. Anyway, as they caught up, I was thinking of my own acronyms. Like should I change my title from curtain pusher to CDO (Chief Decorating Officer)? Or CPS: Chief Pusher and Shover. In the end, I opted for MWP: More Wine Please.

The evening was fun, and the wine and food were delicious. I like that the restaurant features sustainable proteins (sounds so foodie!) and produce from local county farms. Speaking of sustainability, let’s talk about Q Collection, which was recently purchased by Twill Textiles, makers of lovely things. It was founded on the basis of creating a fully sustainable fabric collection that’s also great looking. What does sustainability mean to us in Dallas? Not much. But I think things will change eventually.  I do like the idea of having a room full of beautiful fabrics that were processed without heavy metal dyes and have a low impact on the environment while helping with indoor air quality. But for now, let’s just think of these as awesome fabrics that just happen to be good for you and the planet. Baby steps!

So that about wraps it up. It was a week full of movers, shakers, and drip dickeys. (Did I just type “dickey”? I did indeed.) Happy Friday!!
