And the National Misconception of Dallas Style Continues

HGTV’s Dina Manzo offers her "expert" advice on Design Star.

Hot on the heels of the train wrecks that are Donna Decorates Dallas and Most Eligible Dallas comes Dina’s Party, a event planning design show from that bastion of style herself Dina Manzo. (please note heavy sarcasm) Yes, it’s the same Manzo from the Real Housewives of New Jersey. On last night’s preview, Dina threw a party for her friend Anthony, a broadway “star”, and his partner Ron. Both boys were leaving New Yawk for Dallas where Ron was going to be the new morning anchor for a TV newscast. In case you haven’t figured it out, yes, it’s WFAA’s Ron Corning. While Ron comes off as a sweetheart on the show, Dina and Anthony decide to go for every Texas cliche in the book: cowboy hats, saloon doors, longhorn busts, wood barrels, a mechanical bull, line dancing, etc. In other words, not the least bit Dallas. I’m a lifelong Texan and I appreciate our Lone Star State mythos. When done right, Texan style can be rustic, roughhewn, elegant. This was just tacky. Should I lighten up and embrace the gingham pearl snap shirts? Did anyone catch the show? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
