Ask A Dallas Decorator: Julio Quinones

We asked Julio Quinones to help this poor girl out. Check out his website for some great design.

Q. My fiance says my bedroom looks like the set from Bye Bye Birdie (thanks alot) and I am trying to pull together something less girly. But I don’t want to end up with stuffed animal heads on the walls, or an oversized Tuscan headboard. Help.

A. No need to call the taxidermist. To balance out the femininity of the room, try painting the walls a neutral color, like taupe or sand. Purchase some ready made pillows in a solid color from the existing fabrics to add a fresher and more masculine touch. Finally- try a pair of modern bedside lamps with a simple drum shade.

Men are comfort creatures so avoid delicate pieces. This room is welcoming and doesn't read girly or caveman.
