Jack may be nimble, and Jack may be quick, but I bet he can’t jump over this candlestick. Why? Because it is suspended from the ceiling, and about the coolest bedside light I’ve seen in a long time. A Dutch design couple Brand Van & Egmond created the “floating candles” as a non-fixture fixture, calling it “art without restraint.” It’s available at Scott+Cooner for $1914 in matte black, white, and iron, but I would choose the polished nickel for a truly ethereal feeling. And I would have it in a cozy attic guest room with a rather spartan twin bed, natural white linens and a copy of Jane Eyre on the old crusty painted French night table. And the floors would creak. Strange noises might wake you in the night, and the shutters would slam. I better stop now.
