U.S. News & World Report has released the 2022-2023 Best Children’s Hospitals national ranking and recognized several North Texas hospitals. Children’s Medical Center was the most awarded hospital in the region.

For the fifth consecutive year, Children’s Medical Center Dallas is the only pediatric hospital in North Texas to be ranked in all 10 specialties. Children’s Health was ranked in the top 10 in the country in gastroenterology and GI surgery, and pediatric orthopedics. In addition to ranking in each specialty among the nation’s best pediatric hospitals, Children’s Medical Center Dallas of Children’s Health placed second overall in the Texas state rankings, adding to its extensive list of accolades over the years.

Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston was the top-ranked hospital in the state and ranked second nationally. Children’s Medical Center Dallas was ranked No. 2 in the Southwest, followed by Cook Children’s at No. 4 in the region.

Children’s Health President and Chief Executive Officer Christopher Durovich gave plaudits to the staff for continuing to do excellent work despite the pandemic that has caused unprecedented burnout and worker shortages in many industries.

“We are honored to once again be recognized for our commitment to consistent clinical excellence across all 10 specialty areas by U.S News & World Report, which reaffirms our leadership position in pediatric health care in North Texas and the nation,” Durovich said via release. “We are particularly gratified to be able to maintain this esteemed position through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, which is a testament to the dedication and tireless efforts of our entire Children’s Health team, who are working every day to make life better for children. Together with our academic physician partners at UT Southwestern Medical Center, we are proud to provide our community with access to the best, most advanced care in the nation close to their home.”

Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth was also among the top group of pediatric health centers in the state. It ranked among the top 50 hospitals nationwide in six specialty areas. Another acclaimed local hospital recognized for its pediatric orthopedics expertise was Scottish Rite for Children, ranking third in the specialty out of 50 hospitals nationwide.

According to the annual U.S News & World Report, 198 hospitals nationwide were surveyed for the Best Children’s Hospitals rankings. Of those, only 90 hospitals ranked among the top 50 in at least one of the 10 evaluated specialties.

The publication collected clinical data from each surveyed hospital to determine the rankings. Independent research and consulting firm RTI International then analyzed the data and evaluated a hospital’s performance in key areas: clinical outcomes, such as patient survival rates, infection prevention, and complications; hospital resources related to patient care, such as adequacy of nurse staffing and technology; delivery of healthcare through programs and a hospital’s commitment to the best practices; and expert opinion among upwards of 15,000 pediatric specialists.
