There are 1,714 COVID-19 patients in North Texas hospitals, representing 12.45 percent of bed capacity and 31.12 percent of adult ICU patients, Steve Love of the DFW Hospital Council reports.


Texas Health Resources, one of the largest employers in North Texas, has decided to mandate COVID vaccinations, requiring 23,000 employees to be fully vaccinated by Sept. 10, KERA reports. This follows similar announcements from Baylor Scott & White Health and Methodist Health System. But public hospital systems in the state cannot do the same because of Gov. Greg Abbott’s executive order against public entities mandating a COVID vaccine.


Faith groups in North Texas are pushing to get more people vaccinated as the delta variant spreads in North Texas. Churches, mosques and other places of worship have held vaccination drives to encourage their members to get the shot. According to a survey released Wednesday by the Public Religion Research Institute and Interfaith Youth Core, this type of outreach plays an important role in reducing vaccine hesitancy.
