Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins reported 659 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, and five deaths. This is the highest one-day total since March 4.
COVID-19 hospitalization rates are accelerating with 949 patients in the hospitals of Trauma Service Area E, according to President and CEO of the Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council W. Stephen Love. 259 of those patients are in Dallas County., an increase of more than 30 hospitalized patients from yesterday. The increase in hospitalization rates in the last 30 days has mostly affected unvaccinated people, who are at risk of catching the Delta variant. Love anticipates hospitalizations to increase.
COVID-19 cases are on the rise and children under 12 are not yet eligible for COVID-19 vaccines, but Gov. Greg Abbott says he will not institute a statewide mask mandate for schools, KERA reports. He told Fox News Channel Tuesday parents will decide if kids wear masks. His comments follow new COVID-19 guidance from the American Academy of Pediatrics, recommending all students over the age of 2 and all school staff wear masks whether or not they are vaccinated.
