Between Saturday and Monday, Dallas County counted 870 new COVID-19 cases and five deaths, according to the Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins.

COVID-19 hospitalization rates are rocketing up with 911 patients in the hospitals of Trauma Service Area E, according to President and CEO of the Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council W. Stephen Love. 228 of those patients are in Dallas County. The increase in hospitalization rates in the last 30 days has mostly affected unvaccinated people, who are at risk of catching the Delta variant.

Top Houston doctors warn that a fourth wave of the pandemic is underway, KERA reports. Leaders at the Texas Medical Center raised concerns about the threat of the delta variant. Dr. Peter Hotez said the next wave will hit unvaccinated regions of Texas the hardest like East Texas and the Panhandle.
