Gov. Abbott's lifting of the mask mandate hasn't sent cases up. Booster shots may be necessary for the COVID-19 vaccine.

Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins reported 285 new positive COVID-19 cases and 20 deaths.  


State lawmakers approve a new bill limiting the power of the governor during statewide crises. The Senate passed legislation Tuesday that would require the governor to call a special session to extend a major disaster declaration more than 30 days. Read more from the Dallas Morning News here. 


COVID-19 cases in Texas have not surged since Gov. Greg Abbott lifted the mask mandate according to the Texas Tribune. However, experts caution that it may still be too early to tell whether Abbott’s decisions to lift the statewide mask mandate and allow businesses to fully reopen could prompt a new wave of infections. 


The FDA says that COVID-19 vaccines provide protection for at least nine months but booster shots may become necessary, especially for older populations. The projection comes as scientists and public health officials debate what strategy to pursue on booster shots. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram has more.
