Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins reported 1,858 new cases and 22 deaths, an increase from yesterday. “Medical experts continue to predict that January and February will be challenging months for COVID but I continue to hope we’ll turn the corner soon as vaccine production ramps up and is more accessible to our community,” he tweeted.
A criminal case against a doctor accused of stealing nine doses of the coronavirus vaccine has been thrown out by a Harris County judge reports Dallas Morning News. The judge dismissed the case stating that there was no probable cause to charge the doctor with misdemeanor theft.
Texas is now reporting more than 300 new COVID deaths a day, according to a report from the Texas Tribune. As of Jan. 25, the state has reported roughly 2 million confirmed cases in 254 counties and 281,260 probable cases in 223 counties since the pandemic began.
Tarrant County is seeing an influx of outsiders as more than 20 percent of Tarrant County vaccines are going to people who don’t live in the county. While 78.9 percent of appointments have gone to Tarrant County residents, data shows that 12.9 percent of appointments went to people in unspecified counties, 1.9 percent were from Johnson County, 1.7 percent were from Dallas County, the Star-Telegram reports.
