Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins reported 1,589 new cases and 16 deaths, another down day in the number of new cases. “This is encouraging, but we must remain vigilant in our efforts to stop and slow the spread of this virus, since they also show that hospitalizations have increased 53% compared to one month ago,” he tweeted.

The state is ramping up vaccine distribution this week, as it distributes 70 percent more doses than it did last week, and it has added seven vaccination hubs in North Texas, the Dallas Morning News reports. That will bring the total number in the region to 13, and include four in Collin County.

Statewide, Texas has given out 1.7 million doses of the vaccine, the Texas Tribune reports. Nearly 80 percent of the state’s initial batch of first doses has been distributed.

Governor Greg Abbott visited the COVID-19 vaccine distribution center in Arlington to showcase it as an example for others, and said Texas is waiting on 843,000 more doses, WFAA reports.
