COVID-19 Bulletin (10/19/20)

Nearly 1,200 new cases were added over the weekend, continuing the upward trend.

Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins reported 1,195 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday and Sunday, along with six deaths. The county confirmed 20 deaths on Friday, a significant increase compared to previous days.


Dallas County health officials announced their expectation of more COVID-19 case increases at a press conference on Friday. Dr. Philip Huang, health department director, said Dallas County saw a 94 percent increase in cases since August 22, The Dallas Morning News reported.


In response to a surprising spike in Amarillo and Lubbock COVID-19 hospitalizations, Governor Greg Abbott announced that the state is sending medical resources to the area on Friday, The Texas Tribune reported.


Tarrant County reported over 600 COVID-19 cases on Friday for the third consecutive day. Case increases bring the county total to over 58,000 cases since the beginning of the pandemic, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.
