Collin County says it has no confidence in the COVID-19 numbers reported from the state, even as the total cases and deaths in Collin and Denton County exceed those in Dallas County. Governor Greg Abbott said that the state has made changes to fix the glitch that caused the backlog of cases, NBC5 reports.
The backlog occurred because the state’s tracking system couldn’t keep up with the extensive COVID-19 reporting requirements. Once the software upgraded, the state found coding errors in the data, meaning that 354,000 cases were backlogged from Quest Diagnostics. For the first time since June, less than 6,000 Texans are hospitalized with COVID-19, The Texas Tribune reports. These patients occupy under 11 percent of total hospital beds in the state.
Dallas County added 399 new COVID-19 cases and five deaths on Wednesday, according to Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins. Forty-four of the new cases are from the backlog in the state’s system.
