Dallas County adds a record 312 new cases. Texas reports largest single day gain in hospitalizations.

Dallas County set another record with 312 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total in the county to 13,257. Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins cautioned against panic, saying additional testing is a factor. KERA has more.

Tarrant County reported 225 new cases as well, but the large spike may be due to a lab reporting issue, officials said. Learn more from NBC DFW.

Texas experienced its largest single-day jump in new cases, adding 2,504 statewide. Jefferson County in southeast Texas accounted for 527 new cases alone because of how the county is reporting cases in prisons, The Texas Tribune reports. Increased testing statewide could be responsible, though hospitalizations are also on the rise statewide.

A UT Dallas professor is working on an open-source project that would allow researchers to mine demographic data from COVID-19 patients while maintaining the patients’ privacy, The Dallas Morning News reports.
