Coronavirus is impacting 81 percent of home health organizations and their ability care for patients while 72 percent of home health respondents said their staff lacks adequate personal protective equipment, according to a survey conducted by Dallas-based Axxess.

With 437 responses over a five day window, the survey gave a look into how the home health industry is being impacted by equipment shortages and other restrictions. Cash flow has been interrupted for 60 percent of those who responded, while more than half says the virus has negatively affected staffing challenges.

For 63 percent of respondents, masks, gloves, hand sanitizer, gowns, and face masks were all needed, and lack of supplies, cash flow, and patient care were all major concerns amongst those surveyed.

Nearly half of those surveyed said that COVID-19 would negatively impact their business, though they were split on what kind of long-term impact the virus will have on the industry.

Respondents came from a variety of positions within the companies, including 47 percent at the executive level (28 percent were C-suite), 29 percent at the daily management and administrative level, and 24 percent at the caregivers with direct patient/client engagement level.
