Across the state, 50 people died from COVID-19 on Thursday, the largest single day total since the pandemic began and a day before many Texas businesses are set to reopen, The Dallas Morning News reports.

As North Texas has ramped up testing and began to test those without symptoms, the positive case total is climbing as well. Dallas added 179 new cases, a new daily high, while Tarrant county added 97 new cases. Together, eleven people died from the virus in the two counties. Read more from WFAA.

Citing medical privacy laws, the state of Texas won’t release which nursing homes have positive COVID-19 cases, even as cases and deaths mount, leaving loved ones in the dark about whether their friends and family is at risk. Read on with the Texas Tribune.

Texas A&M wants the government to loosen restrictions and allow their labs normally reserved for animals to be used for human coronavirus testing. University officials say it is the largest public lab capacity in the state, but aren’t able to use it. KERA has more.
