Texas Health Aetna president and chief operating officer Genevieve Caruncho-Simpson has been recognized by Modern Healthcare as one of 2020’s Top 25 Minority Leaders.

“Executives honored on this year’s list of the Top 25 Minority Leaders are reshaping care delivery. They’re leading financial turnarounds, addressing the social determinants of health and adopting new value-based models of care,” noted Aurora Aguilar, editor via release. “But perhaps most importantly, this class is ensuring that staff reflect their communities; by vetting minority candidates for decision-making positions and making medical education more affordable for disenfranchised communities.”

The program recognizes the top minority healthcare executives who influence policy and care delivery across the country, emphasizing the need for more diversity in the nation’s healthcare industry. Caruncho-Simpson, who was a panelist for D CEO’s Healthcare Breakfast on Health Insurance last year, has been an integral part of launching Anytime-MD, Texas Health Aetna’s digital application. She also focuses on home and community programs.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by Modern Healthcare as a 2020 Top 25 Minority Leader,” said Caruncho-Simpson. “I strongly believe in the power of human connection as a catalyst for a more equitable future. Establishing more diversity and inclusion in the workplace begins with creating authentic relationships and gaining new perspectives from our peers into bias and racial, gender and age dynamics. These relationships are how we move forward to break down traditional barriers that impede the advancement of racial minorities across industries.”
