Former Dallas mayor Michael Rawlings has received the 2019 Robert S. Folsom Leadership Award from the Methodist Health System Foundation. Named in honor of former Dallas mayor Robert Folsom, the award was given for Rawlings’ commitment and excellence to community leadership.
Rawlings was the longest serving mayor in more than 50 years, focusing on growing development in southern Dallas, improving public education, reducing domestic violence and overseeing a re-energizing of the urban core. Dallas property value improved from $83 billion to $130 billion during his tenure, and he has received numerous awards for his leadership.
“We feel very strongly that Mike Rawlings exemplifies the intent and spirit of this special award,” said Jim Johnston, Methodist Health System Foundation President via release. “Like Bob Folsom, Mike’s dynamic leadership as a dedicated public servant in Dallas – as well as his care, concern, and generosity to help others who are less fortunate – have made a lasting impact on our city.”
“No one has been a stronger advocate for southern sector than Mike Rawlings. He has dedicated much of his life to making Dallas an even greater city, and we sincerely appreciate his hard work,” said Pete Schenkel, Vice Chair, Methodist Health System Foundation board of trustees via release. “Bob Folsom was committed to Methodist and to ensuring those less fortunate had compassionate, quality healthcare, and Mike shares that mission.”
The Folsom event has raised $18 million over the last 14 years to benefit Methodist Health System’s care in the community. Past award winners have included Troy Aikman, Laura Bush, Pat and Emmitt Smith, Trevor Rees-Jones, and state senator Royce West.
